What does professional vehicle valeting cost? Prices, packages and cost drivers

The honest answer up front: there is no flat price for „the“ vehicle valet – and providers who promise a fixed price for any level of soiling without looking at the vehicle should be treated with scepticism. What does exist are robust ranges and clear cost drivers. This article explains what to realistically expect for interior, exterior and full valeting, what actually determines the price – and why the maths looks different for a single vehicle than for a fleet.

All prices quoted here are guide values from publicly available market overviews (sources at the end). They vary by region, provider, vehicle size and condition – sometimes considerably.

The short answer: realistic price ranges

As a rough guide for a car in normal condition:

• Hourly rate: professional valeting starts at around 50 euros per hour (source: LeasingMarkt.de, Allianz Direct).
• Complete interior valet: from around 100–125 euros.
• Complete exterior valet: from around 250 euros.
• Full valet (interior + exterior): for a mid-size vehicle in normal condition, around 250 euros is a realistic lower limit; with polishing, paint correction or a sealant the price rises noticeably.
• Paintwork: high-gloss polishing from around 70 euros, paint correction from around 170 euros, a complete paint sealant from around 400 euros.

Important: „from“ prices are entry prices for the cheapest case. A heavily soiled interior, pet hair, smoke odour or weathered paintwork can multiply the effort – and with it the price. Reputable providers therefore only quote a final price after inspecting the vehicle.

What actually determines the price

Condition of the vehicle

The biggest cost driver is the starting condition. Between a „company car cleaned weekly“ and „three years on construction sites without an interior clean“ there are quickly several extra hours of work on the same vehicle type. Vehicle size and type

SUVs, vans and vehicles with lots of glass or leather trim cost more than a small car with fabric seats – more surface, more material, more time.

Scope: individual service or package

Valeting is modular. If you only have one specific problem (for example upholstery cleaning from around 20–25 euros per seat, wheel cleaning from around 20 euros per wheel, ozone treatment against odours from around 50 euros), you do not need to book a complete package. Conversely, a package is usually cheaper than the sum of the individual services.

Region and provider model

Hourly rates differ regionally, and the model matters too: workshop, valeting centre or mobile service at your site. For fleets, the invoice amount alone is only half the truth – more on that below.

Where valeting ends: the line to repairs

Valeting means cleaning, care and cosmetic improvement – not repair work. Deep scratches and dents in the bodywork, larger paint damage or holes in the seat upholstery are not a valeting case but a repair case (source: Allianz Direct). Single vehicle vs. fleet: why the maths is different

For private customers, the calculation ends with the invoice amount. In a fleet, three items are added that appear on no invoice:

1. Downtime: a full valet takes several hours to two days depending on scope (source: Allianz Direct). If the vehicle sits in a workshop for that, it is out of service – for a service vehicle that is quickly more expensive than the valeting itself. 2. Coordination effort: requesting appointments per vehicle, handing over keys, checking invoices individually – across 20, 50 or 100 vehicles this adds up to real staff costs.
3. Missing documentation: without proof of when which vehicle was valeted and in what condition, the cared-for state can later be demonstrated neither at lease return nor at resale. In a fleet context, valeting without documentation is only half the job – it is the entry in the vehicle file that turns the expense into provable value retention.

Anyone buying valeting for a fleet should therefore compare not only unit prices, but total cost per vehicle including downtime, coordination and documentation.

Checklist: comparing quotes properly

• Ask for the scope of work in writing: what is included in the package, what costs extra?
• Question „from“ prices: does the price apply to your vehicle in its condition – or to the ideal case?
• Inspection or photos up front: reputable providers calculate on the object, not over the phone.
• For fleets: clarify price per vehicle including travel/on-site service, collective appointments and invoicing.
• Agree on documentation: before/after photos and a service record per vehicle – ideally filed straight into the vehicle file.
• Clarify duration and vehicle availability before the appointment is fixed.

It can pay off if the cost of valeting is below the expected diminished-value claims – typically with soiling, dull paintwork and minor signs of use. Valeting does not fix deep damage; that is a case for smart repair or a proper repair.

Does insurance pay for vehicle valeting?

No. Cleaning and value enhancement are paid by the vehicle keeper. Only self-inflicted damage may – depending on the policy – be covered by fully comprehensive insurance.

Why do prices differ so much between providers?

Because hourly rates, scope of work and quality standards vary widely, and „Aufbereitung“ (valeting) is not a protected term. Quotes only become comparable once the scope of work is defined in writing.
